The Tamagotchi Plus Color was the first Tamagotchi to feature a color screen. It heralded the modern generation of Tamagotchi releases. This Japan-exclusive line had seven initial shell designs, a second wave of four shell colors, and two special edition shell pairs released at a later date.

Four special edition shells were released, two for the Japanese Band Exile, and two based on the Japanese game show Quiz! Hexagon.
